The Rapaka’s Ministry Update May 2019

Dear brothers and sisters,

Here is some information on our current situation.

We are temporarily staying in Virginia Beach because of the recent civil unrest in Haiti. Due to the increased danger and limited supplies, we evacuated the country in the month of February. The current security threat level is at 4 according to the U.S. Embassy in Haiti. We are planning to return to Haiti very soon as we are continually monitoring the ground situation there. Haitians have been protesting in the streets against the current government since last July. The protesters have been destroying both public and private properties during this ongoing unrest. Since then, essential commodities have skyrocketed. For example, a gallon of gas costs $6 – US dollars. A bag of rice is $18, a can of dry beans is $7 and a gallon of cooking oil is $11. And out of 14 million people, 60 percent of the Haitian population lives on less than $2 dollars a day as reported in the World Report and BBC news. The lives of many Haitian people are in very devastating conditions.

New Vision

Once we return to Haiti, we are going to start a home for girls. We are planning to start taking in young children as soon as possible. We are currently in the process of negotiating with our landlord to rent the downstairs floor of our current house. This would provide more space and functionality for the start of this new project. We are so excited about this new faith adventure. We are trusting God for all of the necessary resources for this new project such as funds, bottles, baby clothes, baby formulas and diapers, etc. The rent and operational costs for a year will come to about $24,000.

The Urgent Need
Electricity has become so scarce in Haiti since the civil unrest in February. Power comes every 3 days and for only about 4 hours. We’re in great need of solar panels and a generator for our home and the new girls’ home. Please prayerfully consider donating. The total cost comes to about $15,000.
Prayer Requests:
Haiti:
  • Safety for the Rapakas.
  • Solar panels and a generator.
  • Funds, supplies, and godly workers for the girls’ home.
  • Registration of Love and Hope with the Government of Haiti.
India:
  • Completion of Church building in India – walls, flooring, furniture, fans, and labor, etc. Cost: $6,000
  • Sound system, key board, and drum set for the new Church. Cost: $4,000
  • Building the fourth floor of Love and Hope building. Cost: $10,000
